Corona Virus Safety Measures at Mena Farm

We’re re-opening from 4 July (yay!) so want to tell you about the corona virus safety measures we’ve implemented at Mena Farm, which are fully compliant with guidance from the government and our trade body, the BH&HPA. Cleaning staff are issued with PPE, although it’s use is not an official requirement.

Our shower block and washup/laundry block will be open and available for use with hygiene and social distancing measures in place. I’m afraid though that our games barn and play area will not be available as we are unable to guarantee compliance with government guidance as it currently stands.

We can’t wait to see you all and welcome you all to Mena – we’ve missed you all! This has been and continues to be, a very strange time for everyone, and we’re all having to learn to the adapt to the new era of corona virus. So, whilst we are taking every precaution possible (see below), we do need your help to keep the site safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Firstly, please be aware that whilst you may or may not be too concerned about the virus, others may feel very differently. We want you all to enjoy your stay at Mena, so please, please, please, follow all on-site guidance closely, and be respectful, patient and courteous towards each other and our team.

Secondly, Children must be closely supervised at all times – particularly those who are too young to understand the importance of social distancing.

Thirdly, if you are in a caravan or motorhome, you may wish to use your own facilities as much as possible for your own peace of mind.

If you know you have been exposed to the virus, and/or, if you or any member of your party are exhibiting any symptoms of the virus, please do not travel to Cornwall. Please respect that we have a duty of care towards all our guests and our community, and cannot risk getting sick ourselves. You cannot self-isolate at Mena – the Government instruction that you should self-isolate at home still remains in force. In addition, Cornwall has very limited health resources compared to other parts of the country, so you really can’t risk getting ill whilst here. Please be considerate to our other guests and our community, stay at home, and rest assured that we will happily transfer your booking to a later date, or issue you with a voucher to use at a later date.

Please note: that if you fail to comply with our safety measures or with government restrictions whilst on-site, you will be asked to leave and no refund will be forthcoming.

Risk Assessed Corona Virus Safety Measures at Mena Farm:

Please note: that across the site, cleaning routines have been stepped up and comply fully with government guidance for cleaning in non-healthcare environments. This will include regular cleaning of all hard-surfaces and touch points such as door handles, taps etc. with Ecosan anti-viral disinfectant.

Reception and Shop:

  • Check-in will take place outdoors as much as possible. All new arrivals will be given a general overview of the site, and corona virus specific information.
  • Only campers that have booked in advance will be allowed on-site.
  • Payments will be taken online in advance – we would prefer contactless payments for any purchases on-site purchases.
  • Only one person at a time will be allowed in reception and shop, unless accompanying a child.
  • Hand gel is provided at the entrance – please use it before entry.
  • Both reception and the external decked area will be clearly marked at 2m intervals to enable effective social distancing.
  • Freezer for ice blocks available in reception – please hand them to one of us. There no public access to reduce risk of cross-contamination.

Shower Block:

  • There is a one-way system through the shower block. Please enter and exit as sign-posted – we cannot emphasize how important this is.
  • We have CCTV monitoring the public area of the shower block and you can view this outside at reception to enable you to see whether you should wait to use the facilities.
  • Hand gel is provided at the entrance – please use it before entry.
  • Please wash your hands after using the facilities – guidance on effective hand-washing is provided.
  • The floor will be clearly marked at 2m intervals to enable effective social distancing.
  • The hairdryer is unavailable to discourage people lingering longer than necessary, and as using it potentially sheds the virus more widely.
  • The washbasins for are essential use only, i.e. washing hands, faces, cleaning teeth, shaving. No brushing hair, doing makeup, or skincare routines – you will need to do this elsewhere.
  • All windows and doors will be left open 24 hours per day to maximise ventilation.
  • Please do not wait for others, or linger any longer than necessary inside.
  • If the facilities are congested, you will need to wait outside until they clear.
  • Additional cleaners are available for your use.

Washup/Laundry Block & Waste Disposal:

  • Hand gel is provided at the entrance to the wash-up area and at waste disposal points – please use it on entry and after using the facilities.
  • Additional cleaners are available for your use.
  • Please wash your hands after using these facilities – guidance on effective hand-washing is provided.
  • The sinks are 1.2m apart – only one person allowed to use each sink and a maximum of four people allowed inside at any time. Floor is marked to enable effective social distancing.
  • The laundry room will remain locked and only available on request. Please do not shake out clothes prior to loading the machines as this potentially sheds the virus more widely.

Campsite General:

  • The games barn will remain closed, and the play area cordoned off and out of use.
  • The track will be clearly marked at 2m intervals to help ensure appropriate social distancing.
  • You must leave a minimum of 6m between you and your neighbours when pitching your tent or van.
  • Guests will not be able to have visitors to the site – please do respect this, as we are responsible for your safety whilst on-site. Any visitors will be asked to leave.
  • We will not take groups of children to visit the animals although you are, of course, welcome to visit them yourselves.
  • We have isolation procedures in place and we will provide guidance on arrival of what to do should you become sick during your stay.

Self-Catering & Glamping:

You will be issued with specific guidance on arrival depending on whether you’re staying in our glamping tents, caravans or the farmhouse, but just to give you some advance reassurance:

  • All bedding and towels are laundered professionally.
  • All mattress and pillow case protectors will be laundered on each changeover.
  • Duvets and pillows will be rotated to leave at least 72 hours between each guest.
  • Changeover cleaning routines have been stepped up to ensure all hard surfaces and touch points such as door handles, taps etc. will be cleaned thoroughly on changeover. Soft furnishings will be steam-cleaned as appropriate.
  • All non-essential items including games, hairdryer, cushions, blankets/throws, ornaments, hot water bottles, baby equipment, hoover and iron/ironing board have been removed, but are available upon request.
  • Cleaning staff will be issued with PPE to minimise the risk of any possible transmission.
